Jaundice

Connor developed jaundice 2 days after he was born. He was doing great until Monday night/Tuesday morning when he lost 10% of his body weight and doubled his bilirubin levels. Connor's pediatrician said that he had to stay another 24 hours to go under these special lights they have for jaundice.  They told us that we were going to have to leave the hospital without Connor, which was not OK with me!

After some tears, thankfully our pediatrician was able to pull together a plan where we could all stay together.  All three of us were sent to the Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit, where they had an extra bed, and they would allow Dave and I to stay the night with Connor.  I was not going to leave him, and I am so glad that my doctor was able to find a solution for us!  We were able to take him out from underneath the lights every 3 hours to feed and change his diaper.

Some pics of Connor underneath the lights.  He had to wear special sunglasses to protect his eyes!

Hopefully after spending time under the lights all the numbers are looking good and you are at home enjoying your new bundle of joy.
